Saskatoon has some problems that people are just ignoring. Rents are increasing, no rent caps in place, Appartments are being converted in to condos, there is a Zero vacancy rate, Buildings are being sold and people are given three months to find a new place or they are left to the street.
Recently on the news they released a statement saying that The YWCA had turned down just over 500 people and family's because of lack of rooms and resources. They also stated that Gordie how park was packed to overflow this summer with families with no where to go. The Salvation army has been turning down people for the last few months because they just simply can't help anyone. The city has no room for people. It's not only shelters that are packed to the limmit but also appartments and housing. With recent housing costs rising alot of people are not able to afford where they are living. I have a freind who has been living with his wife in their little two bedroom for over 23 years, Two months ago they got a notice saying that the rent was going up by $240. Now after 23 years they have to move out of their home.
It has gotten to the point where people are desperate to find anywhere to stay. Its getting to cold to stay outside with fall comming. People are rentinng out basements,Garages, and even couches, but still there is a great need. I am asking people to not only pray for the people, but to take action. If you have an extra room, or a basment that could fit a bed, or even know of anyone who would be willing to take in a person or two, or heck even have a couch. People would be willing to rent it.
Also my Mom has a bible study group that has started a food relief program, already they have donated, 6-8 food packs to the college park area alone. They are called the college park bible study, and its made up of like 6 old ladies doing what they can, but even that is helping. If any one knows of anything they can do to help please email me at mailme53@gmail.com, or comment or leave a post on my facebook, or what ever lol.
Ps. IF you or anyone you know of is interested in donating or getting involved with the food relief program, please email Joanne at chaben48@hotmail.com
